Blue & Gold Consulting is a student-driven experiential learning program sponsored and administered by Marquette Business. The program brings together talented undergraduate students to address real business challenges for companies, nonprofit organizations and other partners.
Through professionally structured consulting engagements, students put their Marquette education into practice while developing the analytical, leadership, teamwork and communication skills that distinguish them in the workplace. Students are selected through a competitive application process and have full responsibility for leading their teams and delivering the work, while Marquette Business provides the structure, professional training, coaching and oversight necessary to support their success.

What if you could tackle an important business problem for a real company, present your recommendations to its executives and build professional experience 鈥 all while still at Marquette?
Blue & Gold Consulting gives undergraduate students the opportunity to work in teams on consulting engagements with companies and organizations ranging from startups and nonprofits to Fortune 500 businesses. You'll be expected to think critically, work independently, collaborate with your teammates and interact professionally with clients. You'll also have the training, coaching and support to help you succeed.
This isn't a case competition or classroom simulation. The client is real. The problem is real. And your work matters.
Build Experience
Apply what you're learning at Marquette to complex business questions that don't have a predetermined answer.

Every project is different because every engagement begins with a real challenge facing one of our partner organizations.

Join a Project Team
Project teams include 5鈥6 undergraduate students selected based on the needs of the project and the experience and interests of participating students.
Prepare for Industry
Students receive professional-level training in consulting processes, project management, analytical frameworks, client engagement and executive communication.
Work Directly with Your Client
Teams interact regularly with a project sponsor from the client organization to understand the issue, test hypotheses, gather information and share progress.
Receive Weekly Coaching
Each team works with an experienced professional mentor who helps students navigate challenges, improve their approach and develop as consultants.
Deliver your Recommendations
Projects culminate in professional deliverables and a presentation of the team's findings, insights and recommendations to client leadership.
Typical Blue & Gold Consulting engagements run 10鈥12 weeks during the semester.
Students should expect to commit at least 5 hours per week to team meetings in addition to independent project work and client interaction. Project workloads vary throughout the engagement and may become more intensive around major milestones and final presentations.
Students also participate in a weekly consulting practicum designed to build skills that can be applied immediately to their project work.
Blue & Gold Consulting students are hired and compensated by Marquette Business for their project time, reinforcing the professional expectations and accountability that come with serving a client.
You do not need prior consulting experience to be a strong candidate.
Blue & Gold Consulting looks for students who demonstrate:
Students are selected through a competitive application process, with teams ultimately formed based on the skills and interests needed for available projects.
Participating in Blue & Gold Consulting means accepting responsibilities to your teammates, your client and Marquette. Students are expected to manage their time responsibly, participate actively in team and client meetings, produce high-quality work and maintain professional standards throughout the engagement. Because projects may involve proprietary business information, students also agree to project-specific requirements governing confidentiality, data handling and intellectual property when appropriate.
One of the most valuable parts of Blue & Gold Consulting is the opportunity to operate with greater independence than you might experience in a traditional class.Your mentor will coach you. Faculty experts may advise you. The program will provide tools and structure, but the students own the project.
That means learning how to navigate uncertainty, make decisions, respond to client feedback, support your teammates and ultimately stand behind your recommendations. That's what makes the experience both challenging and valuable.
Blue & Gold Consulting is open to undergraduate students with at least 2nd semester sophomore standing interested in gaining meaningful professional experience while contributing their talents to a real client engagement.
Applications will open in Spring 2027.
