What Parents and Families Should Know

We know families play an important role in supporting student health and well-being. As students transition to college, they also take on greater responsibility for managing their own healthcare. The Medical Clinic is here to support that independence while providing high-quality, accessible care.

Before your student arrives on campus:

Preparing ahead of time can help your student feel more confident managing their health once the semester begins.

Review your health insurance: Make sure your student understands their health insurance coverage, including how to use it while at school and where to go for care if needed.

Bring important health information: Encourage your student to bring a copy of their insurance card, list of medications, and any relevant medical history.

Complete required health forms: Have your student complete the required health forms on the to avoid any registration holds.

Plan for prescriptions: If your student takes medication, plan ahead for refills and transfers to a local pharmacy if needed.

Talk About When to Seek Care: Help your student understand when to schedule an appointment—such as for illness, injury, or ongoing health concerns.

Once your student is on campus:

Students have access to a wide range of care through the Medical Clinic.

Accessing Care
Students schedule their own appointments online or by phone at 414-288-7184. Same-day appointments may be available for urgent concerns.

Confidential Care
Medical visits are confidential. Healthcare providers cannot share information with parents or families without the student’s written permission. This allows students to seek care openly and responsibly.

Range of Services
The Medical Clinic provides care for common illnesses and injuries, physical exams, immunizations, sexual health, lab testing, and more. If specialized care is needed, students can be referred to community providers.

Costs and Insurance
Many services are covered by the student health fee, while some services (such as lab tests, x-ray or presriptions) may have additional costs. The Medical Clinic is unable to bill insurance.

After-Hours Care
If the clinic is closed, students should use after-hours nurse advice services. They can seek care at a local urgent care or emergency department when appropriate.
